Longer days are here
We gain the most daylight in March

spring!

Do you feel like your days are getting longer? Well, that will all depend on your planned activities, but we can tell you that sunset is occurring much later, and extending further this month.

The month of March is the month when we gain the most daylight in the year. Of course, this is mostly due to the time change, where we “spring forward” one hour.

The most time gained, just in the month of March, happens along the extreme northern fringe of the nation, from Washington State to upper Maine, where about 100 minutes of daylight are gained, in total, for the month. As you move southward the time of daylight gain decreases but will still be significant (and much-awaited by those who long the “longer days”). South Florida and southern Texas get an increase of 40 minutes in total in March.

When will we notice it the most?

You will likely notice the biggest change in daylight on Sunday, March 13th, as sunset will happen about 1 hour later than on March 12th.

After all, Daylight Saving Time starts on March 13 at 2 a.m. So, before bedtime on Saturday, March 12 (if you have those analogs or digital clocks that are not connected to the internet) you must set our clocks to 3 a.m. at 2 a.m.

You can see sunrise and sunset time for your city in our app.

So, if you get upset that the shortest weekend of the year is quickly approaching, think about all the daylight you are gaining!
