N.M. flash floods
Over half a million people at risk

The monsoon will take force across New Mexico starting this week. Over half a million people are at risk of experiencing flash floods as plenty of tropical moisture is channeled over the state from Mexico.

Our WeatherRadar stayed active on Sunday, mainly across southeast and eastern New Mexico, as this series's first batches of storms moved through the area. Rain and thunderstorm activity will stay throughout the week, with Tuesday being the most active day. There is a moderate chance of flash floods, level 3 out of 4.

The risk for extensive and dangerous flooding will be mainly for central and eastern New Mexico, like Ruidoso and the Sacramento Mountains. Burn scar areas are especially at risk of flash floods and the ground cannot drain all the rain correctly. Flash floods will not be the only risk; some storms could bring hail and damaging winds across the state's eastern half. The storms could also trigger strong gusts, blowing dust across southwest New Mexico.
