Big storms threaten Southern Plains

Texas stormsBig storms threaten from Texas to Arkansas today

Big storms will roll across the southern Plains today, bringing hail, damaging winds and a chance of tornadoes. Large stretches of Texas, southeastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas will see the strongest ones.

As our WeatherRadar shows, a few morning storms are rolling across eastern Oklahoma. These storms, the lingering remnants of storms that produced large hail in the Texas Panhandle on Thursday, will fade this afternoon, allowing a new set of storms.

Thursday storms

A strong frontal system moving across Texas will trigger today’s storms. Large storms will be possible from western Texas and the Big Bend northeastward into western Arkansas. San Antonio, Austin, Waco, and Dallas, Texas, Shreveport, La., and Little Rock, Ark., could all see storms today.

Large hail will be the biggest danger from these storms, but damaging winds and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Storm dangers

The system will move into the Southeast and East on Saturday. It will lose much of its potency but could still produce pockets of rain from the Gulf Coast to New England Saturday afternoon.

Residents and travelers will need to have their app alerts turned on and be prepared to act quickly if a storm threatens. Our WeatherRadar is a great tool for tracking storms in realtime.
