Risk of severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding

We can expect several days of potentially severe weather this week—if not for the entire week—especially in the central United States, from Texas to the Midwest.

After a stormy Saturday in the west, the WeatherRadar indicates that Sunday afternoon will see numerous storms in central and eastern Texas. There is a risk of some severe thunderstorms along I-35 from San Antonio to Waco, but as the storms move eastward, the risk will extend to parts of eastern Texas, including the Houston area and its surroundings, north of I-10.

Meanwhile, Texas faces the risk of storms bringing hail, destructive winds, and a few tornadoes through the evening. Additionally, because the ground is quite saturated from yesterday’s rain and today's heavy rainfall, flash flooding is possible in San Antonio, Austin, Waco, College Station, Houston, and the surrounding areas.

This week, we will continue to see several weather systems moving across the country, with the strongest impacts expected in the central regions. On Monday, there is a high risk of severe thunderstorms that could produce several strong tornadoes and large hail in eastern and southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, including major cities such as Minneapolis, St. Paul, and their surrounding areas. The highest risk will be during the afternoon and evening of Monday.

Meanwhile, in West Texas, isolated severe storms will once again be possible as another system moves into the central part of the country starting Monday. This same system will intensify as it moves out of the Rocky Mountains on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing a risk of storms over a wide area, from the Great Lakes to northern Texas. Chicago, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, and Abilene should be on alert, as the risk of storms will be present, with a possible tornado between Tuesday afternoon and early Wednesday morning.
