7.7-magnitude earthquake hits Myanmar

A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar early Friday afternoon local time. The quake was strong enough to shake nearby Thailand as well.

On Friday, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city. Multiple aftershocks, including a 6.4 magnitude one, followed the earthquake. A widespread state of emergency has been declared in Myanmar.

The earthquake also led to significant damage in neighboring Thailand. The quake led to a building collapse in Bangkok, Thailand, killing at least three and leaving dozens missing.
