Breakfast Brief
Stormy skies finally shift eastward

The broken record pattern of daily rains and thunderstorms across the eastern two-thirds finally shifts slightly east. However, those in the Southeast and Mississippi Valley will continue getting the same forecast on Friday. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

Today we'll watch lightning light up the WeatherRadar mostly in the eastern third of the U.S., along the Mississippi Valley and to the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. However, one pocket in the southern Plains, from Midland to Amarillo, Texas, and into Oklahoma City, will be dealing with another round of dryline severe storms.

With the active weather comes the flash flooding threat once more, this time spanning from the Texas Panhandle to the lower Great Lakes. Have at least three ways to receive a weather warning.

To the West, a low-pressure system will produce showers and mountain snow in California and Oregon and further inland into the northern Great Basin and northern Rockies. The WeatherRadar shows the rain and mountain snow making it down the Sierras and through the California Central Valley. Los Angeles and surrounding suburbs may see a stray late-evening shower but spotty clouds will be the norm here for the day.

The Florida heat cannot be stopped today as the West Florida Coast sees possible record-breaking highs in the 90s... again. Highs here are running around 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. Check out the TemperatureRadar to see more details.
