Pumpkins suffer from summer drought

Weather & Radar Meteorologist Tamsin Green recently visited a pumpkin farm, to investigate how the summer drought may have impacted the pumpkins. But is it all trick and no treat?

With Halloween right around the corner, preparations for many of us are in order to start getting into the spooky spirit. But one thing you might not have considered is the potential shortage in the pumpkin supply this year.

In the same way, drought has impacted pumpkin size in Central New York, many farms across Britain are reporting a shortage, as a result of the drought we experienced throughout summer. Pumpkins are made up of 80 percent water, so without proper irrigation since being planted in May, they have certainly suffered this season. But how?

Ian Pigott, owner of The Pop Up Farm in Hertfordshire, England, says he has certainly felt an impact in the size of his pumpkins in comparison to normal.
