2025 hurricane prediction
Above-average expected

The first seasonal forecast of the 2025 Atlantic Basin hurricane season is in and another busy one is on tap.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center's forecast calls for 13 to 19 named storms, six to 10 of them developing into hurricanes, and three to five major hurricanes forming this year. These numbers are above the long-term average.

The projected above-average season is driven by above-average water temperatures in the tropical waters of the Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico. Additional factors are the northern shift of the wet monsoon over western Africa—which is an incubator for tropical systems developing in the far eastern Atlantic—and El Nino being neutral.

The WeatherRadar provides a zoomable view of the entire Atlantic hurricane basin. Weather & Radar meteorologists will be monitoring forecasts throughout the season, which starts June 1st, and you can count on personalized alerts when a storm develops or threatens the U.S.
