Life-threatening flooding continues

Torrential downpours overnight led to a flash flood emergency in Texarkana, Ark. Multiple water rescues were made along I-30, and the flood threat continues this weekend.

Dangerous flash flooding will continue across the South into the Ohio Valley this weekend, with an additional 4-6 inches falling in parts of eastern Arkansas, northwest Mississippi, west Tennessee, southeastern Missouri and western Kentucky. Some areas could even see 7-9 inches locally.

Rain totals over the next 48 hours.

The WeatherRadar shows heavy rain soaking many areas that have already received inches of rain this past week. Today, cities at risk of flash flooding include Little Rock, Ark., Memphis, Tenn., Paducah and Louisville, Ky., and Cincinnati.

Severe storms are also a concern, especially this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes (some strong) are possible across the lower Mississippi Valley. Cities like Lufkin, Texas, Shreveport, La., and Memphis, Tenn., will want to stay alert for severe storms.
