September 10 is officially the average peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, but the WeatherRadar shows no tropical activity in the basin. The question is: will we see any hurricanes soon?

By now, the Atlantic has usually had around four hurricanes on average in a typical season. Other than five tropical storms, we have yet to see any hurricanes this season since it officially began on June 1.

Below-normal activity is a usual occurrence during El Niño years, as sinking air and higher wind shear keep instability at bay. Additionally, there have been several bouts of Saharan dust drifting across the Atlantic, which also keeps disturbances from organizing. A plume is present in the eastern Atlantic at this time.

While there are disturbances present in the Atlantic and Gulf, bringing heavy rains to the Gulf Coast, tropical activity is not expected at this time.
