Preparing the home for winter weather

Winter is almost here! How should you prepare the home for when winter truly arrives?

With the price of heating still high, it’s vital that you take action now to help reduce costs in winter. Start by checking over the home looking for drafts from doors, windows, and even a loft hatch where heat could be lost.

If you are already turning to the heating, be sure to check if radiators are in need of bleeding to help them operate at their most efficient level.

With winter comes severe weather which can often lead to power cuts. Prepare a power outage kit now to ensure you are ready if the worst happens.

This could include flashlights (candles are not recommended for safety purposes), blankets to keep warm, a power bank to keep phones charged if help is needed, first aid supplies, and something to keep yourself entertained until power is restored.

Before the severe conditions hit, you may wish to have your roof checked by a professional to ensure it is in good condition.

When the chill gets too much and it is time to reach for the thermostat try experimenting with slightly lower temperatures.

Reducing your setting even by a single degree could save 10% on energy bills.
