Beryl has spent Saturday traveling toward Texas over the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane warnings have been issued along with storm surge watches and warnings coming starting Sunday.

Beryl has been battling dry air filtering in from the south-southwest, with most of its convection, as shown in our WeatherRadar, staying to the north of the center. It is unlikely that Beryl will reach hurricane status on Saturday, but on Sunday, as the storm approaches the Texas Coast the system will become a hurricane.

Residents from Corpus Christi Bay northward to Matagorda Bay should know that a hurricane will make landfall late Sunday or early Monday. Preparations should end, and everyone should be in place Sunday morning, by 10 a.m. Conditions along the immediate coast will quickly deteriorate after this time.

Impacts will go beyond the coast.

The biggest impacts will be storm surge, and heavy rains, followed by strong dangerous hurricane-force winds confined to the coast, but tropical storm-force winds inland, possibly extending over Central Texas at time on Monday afternoon.

Models show a swath of heavy rainfall extending from where the storm makes landfall between I45 and I35, closer to the Austin/Waco area, between 10-12 inches are possible, with some isolated areas receiving up to 15 inches. Storm surge will peak at 5 feet along the Central Texas coast and the Southern Coast as well as the northern Coast in the Galveston Bay area, storm surge could reach up to 4 feet.

We will continue to bring you updates throughout the weekend. Make sure you have your weather alerts on, end preparations on time and stay in your safe place.
