Breakfast brief: A spring blizzard, plus severe storms

A powerful storm system caused severe weather in the South on Monday and will move east today, bringing heavy rain and storms from the Deep South to the Great Lakes. The Upper Midwest faces heavy snow and potential blizzard conditions while another strong Pacific storm approaches the West Coast.

A winter storm will continue to produce moderate winds, heavy snow, and possibly blizzard conditions across the Plains and Upper Midwest today. Meanwhile, an eastward-moving cold front will trigger heavy downpours and strong storms from the Great Lakes to the Deep South.

Coastal areas from Maryland to New York will continue to see coastal flooding conditions through Tuesday afternoon, given the strong onshore flow in place. Conditions should gradually improve through Tuesday night.

Lastly, the Intermountain West and the Rocky Mountains will continue to see higher-elevation snow on Tuesday. But the next Pacific low will bring back precipitation chances along the West Coast by mid to late work week.
