Breakfast brief
Friday storms for Midwest, Southeast

National Outlook for May 24th

The end of the work week and the start of the Memorial Day weekend could be impacted by a big Plains storm system. This could bring downpours and storms from Texas to the Great Lakes. A few troubling showers will be possible across the Southeast.

On this day, a deadly tornado hitting Union City, Okla., was studied by experimental Doppler Radar. This would be the first time the technology was used in an in-depth study of tornadoes.

Today's weather outlook

The WeatherRadar will be tracking another big spring storm moving across the Plains and the Upper Midwest. This system will bring some strong storms, especially across the Missouri and the central Mississippi Valley. A few of these storms could cause pre-holiday travel headaches in Chicago, St. Louis, and even Dallas.

A few broken lines of storms will be possible throughout the Southeast into the southern Mid-Atlantic. These are more widely scattered, so the interruptions they produce will be brief.

Highs in the 70s and 80s will be found throughout the Plains and East while the Rockies and Northwest begin a gradual warm-up as temperatures finally start climbing out of the the 50s and into the 60s.
