Breakfast Brief: Heat wave plus severe threat for Midwest

Breakfast Brief
Heat wave plus severe threat for Midwest

The long-lasting heat wave continues for the West, and that heat has spread to much of the country. Strong storms are possible across the Midwest.

Did you know?

On this day in 2011, a powerful derecho struck east central Iowa, causing widespread damage and extensive power outages. With gusts over 100 mph, it traveled rapidly during the early morning, causing structural damage, uprooting trees, and downing power lines. Cedar Rapids and Des Moines were particularly affected.

The TemperatureRadar is showing sizzling heat for parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, and the Rockies. Hot and humid conditions will also continue across the Plains and Southeast. Temperatures will reach well into the 90s and even 100s, and combined with humidity, this heat can be dangerous.

Strong storms Midwest

Strong storms are possible across the Midwest this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds, hail and a few tornadoes are possible across the Upper Midwest into the Great Lakes. Make sure your Weather & Radar alerts are turned on.
