Breakfast Brief
Heavy rain & flooding targets Mid-Atlantic

Mother Nature is bringing much-needed rainfall to the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic through Saturday as a low pressure lingers, with snow falling in the Northeast. Additionally, with below-average temperatures spreading along the East Coast, the West continues to bake in record heat. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

A low-pressure system will continue dropping rain across the Carolinas to the northern Mid-Atlantic. The WeatherRadar shows showers and storms stretching along the I-95 corridor this morning with snow impacting the Northeast too. The rain and Northeast snow will linger through Saturday before finally moving out to sea.

Those hitting the roads will need to be on the lookout for flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage. Remember, if you see dark blue or purple on the WeatherRadar this indicates heavy rain or downpours. Have at least three ways to receive weather warnings.

This same low-pressure system will have gusty winds impacting the South, with gusts as high as 40 mph possible. Be sure to mind the WindRadar if you have outdoor plans.

To the West, the heat continues to build. This summer preview could break more records today as highs reach near 80 as far north as Montana. Triple-digit temperatures are back in the forecast for the Desert Southwest too where the TemperatureRadar shows its reds and pinks.

If you need to be outdoors in this heat, be sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks!
