Breakfast Brief
Milton approaches Fla.; U.S. stays quiet

The biggest weather story continues to be Hurricane Milton. Weather will rapidly deteriorate today across Florida as Milton makes landfall later this evening. The rest of the U.S. will be quiet with summer temperatures possible.

The WeatherRadar shows Hurricane Milton rolling into Florida today, sweeping squalls of tropical downpours across the Sunshine State well before the eye and its strongest weather hits the Gulf Coast this afternoon and tonight. A soaking will occur.

Milton's landfall

If Milton hits Florida as a major hurricane, this will be the second major hurricane to hit the state this season. The last season this occurred was 2005.

The only other rainy weather to occur today is in the Northwest and the Northeast. Spotty showers will be prevalent in both areas.

The TemperatureRadar shows another warm October across the U.S. Highs will be in the 80s throughout the central U.S. and the Mountain West from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada. Par for the course, the Southwest and interior southern California will be in the 90s and low triple-digits. The East and West coasts will be cooler, with 60s and 70s present.

Wednesday's highs.

Tropical update:

The tropical focus remains on Milton. Major Hurricane Milton will slam into Florida and make landfall tonight, likely as a Category 3 or 4 hurricane. It will slam the Sunshine State with destructive storm surge, damaging winds and inland flooding. Check back for the latest information.

Tropical Storm Leslie will continue to weaken as it moves over the central Atlantic. A small disturbance over eastern Florida could move into the Atlantic and develop into a weak tropical system over the next several days as it moves over the Gulf Stream.
