Breakfast brief
Severe threat spreads eastward

Wednesday Break brief

After a busy Monday and Tuesday filled with severe weather , the midweek threat for severe storms shifts into the South and Southeast.

Hurricane season begins soon

Did you know, the Eastern Pacific Hurricane season begins in one week on May 15 while the Atlantic Basin doesn't start until June 1.

Today's weather outlook

The WeatherRadar shows two areas of concern heading into the middle of the work week.

A fresh batch of severe storms will be possible from northeastern Texas northeastward into the central MIssissippi and lower Ohio valleys, Mid-South and the southern Appalachians. Damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes will be possible.

A lingering upper-level system will produce more late-season snow across the northern Rockies, with rain falling over the highest Plains. This system will keep the Interior West cold for early May, with highs once again struggling to climb out of the 40s and 50s, with 30s found across the higher elevations.

A look at Wednesday, May 8th National Outlook

The South and most of the East will remain unseasonably hot with upper 80s and low 90s Wednesday afternoon. The exception will be the Northeast, where rain and an onshore flow off the Atlantic keeps things chilly.

Here is what we are watching:

  • Severe storms for the South
  • Lingering snow in the northern Rockies
  • Oklahoma tornado cleanup
