Breakfast brief
Summer heat with Northeast relief

WeatherRadar for Monday

Summer is in full swing across the U.S. as June's last work week kicks off. However, a few cooling showers has broken the extreme Northeast's heat wave.

Did you know?

On this day in 1935, the Dust Bowl heat wave reaches its peak with Chicago hitting 109 degrees and Milwaukee hitting 104 degrees.

Today's weather outlook

Summer is in full bloom, and as our TemperatureRadar shows, hot weather extends from coast to coast with 80 and 90s found everywhere. There will be spots in the Southwest, western Texas and the central Plains, including Kansas City, that could top 100 degrees today.

TemperatureRadar
Hot weather is found across most of the U.S. Most places will be in the 80s and 90s.

There will be relief from the heat across the Northeast and the northern Mid-Atlantic. A weak cold front settling across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic has brought in less-humid air and more seasonable temperatures, breaking the heat wave that developed last week. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible in northern New England and across the Southeast.

Tropical Update

After a bit of activity last week, the tropics will be much quieter this week. There will be no development for the next several days once a small wave in the western Gulf of Mexico moves into northeastern Mexico today.

The news we're covering today:

  • Hot summer continues for Plains, Southwest
  • Heat relief across the Northeast
