Brutal temps across West
Turning hot this weekend

Saturday & Sunday's highs
Afternoon highs in the triple digits.

It is going to be an extremely hot weekend across the Mountain West and northern Plains, with elevation not providing relief from the triple-digit temperatures. New daily temperature records will likely be broken both days.

The weekend heat wave has been building slowly with the TemperatureRadar showing highs in the 90s Friday. On Saturday, the first taste of triple-digit highs will be felt in Salt Lake City, Boise, Idaho, and Billings, Mont.

The heat will be cranking on Sunday with much of the central and northern Rockies as well as the western Dakotas hitting the triple digits and places like Billings, Mont., hitting 110 to 112 degrees. Numerous heat records will be broken.

It has been a relatively average summer across the West, so this is one of the first summer blasts of the year. Occurring on a weekend, when people spend time outdoors, it will be important that residents and tourists drink plenty of water, limit outdoor activities during the afternoon and take breaks from strenuous activities.
