California's good news
Reservoirs filling up

California summer water situation is improving, with numerous reservoirs nearing capacity. With mountain snow starting to melt, these reservoirs are expected to fill.

California's State Water Project supplies water to at least 27 million people from a network of pumps, aqueducts and reservoirs. Most of the rain and mountain snow that feeds this network occurs in winter, making reservoir storage important for the hot and dry summer months ahead.

The State Water Project said late last week that Lake Oroville, California's biggest reservoir will likely reach capacity this spring, the third straight year this has occurred. Other important reservoirs are running well above average and filling quickly.

This is even after parts of southern California remains locked in a drought. Luckily, an upper-level low will sweep across southern California today and Monday. This will produce a mix of sun and clouds, cooler temperatures and much needed rainfall. Track it on the WeatherRadar here.

As the remainder of spring and summer continues and the weather turns hot, remember to check the Weather & Radar app for the latest 90-minute forecast, UV Index and air quality forecasts.
