Cape Cod - Drought, gusty winds aid in fire spread

Cape Cod
Drought, gusty winds aid in fire spread

Gusty conditions amongst very dry grasses aided in a controlled burn going past its intended acreage on Thursday, May 1st, at Joint Base Cape Cod.

The WindRadar showed gusts reaching up to 20 mph across the Cape and reports of a hazy horizon meant the smoke was traveling for miles away from the burn site.

Drought conditions have spread even more throughout the East in the last week which means many may be under "no burning" issuances. Gusty winds will only help flames spread, making small fires become larger brush or wildfires quickly.

Check the WindRadar in your area for this weekend if you have outdoor plans.
