Tropical Storm Chantal
Carolina's heavy rains, flood risk

Tropical Storm Chantal continues to inch closer to South Carolina. The forecast calls for heavy rains, which may cause flooding.

The tropical system is expected to reach South Carolina during the early morning on Sunday, and heavy rains will spread through the coastal plains of the Carolinas on Sunday and Monday. The storm is moving rather slowly; therefore, downpours are expected to be persistent. There’s a risk of flash flooding across eastern North Carolina and southern South Carolina between Sunday and Monday.

As our WindRadar shows, winds have also started to pick up on Saturday evening and are expected to wind down as the storm moves inland on Sunday. There will still be rough seas along the coast of North Carolina, as well as the risk of rip currents. Swimmers are advised to stay out of the water.

Our WeatherRadar for Monday shows Chantal's remnants moving through the mid-Atlantic and eventually into the northeast. The remnants will be pushed northeast by a cold front, then guide all the moisture over this region.
