Central U.S.: A cold front coming to the rescue, when

Central U.S.
A cold front coming to the rescue, when?

A dome of high-pressure system shifted to the Middle of the U.S., in combination with lots of Gulf moisture, will create dangerous conditions for outdoor activities.

The same high-pressure system that brought dangerous heat to the West last week has migrated to the Central region of the U.S. and is elevating temperatures to dangerous levels to start the week. A big chunk of the U.S., from the Central Plains through the Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys, will experience highs between the upper 90s and low 100s.

A slow-moving cold front will bring gradual relief but also showers and storms draping from the Midwest through the Ohio River Valley by Wednesday. The heat will continue for the southern, central and southeast as a high-pressure system keeps the front to the north.

The WeatherRadar shows how the storms associated with the front will try to push south on Thursday, but by Friday, they will remain in the same general area. Slightly cooler weather is slated for the Great Lakes through the Northeast.
