Coastal snowstorm - A year's worth of snow in 36 hours?

Coastal snowstorm
A year's worth of snow in 36 hours?

The lower Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas are getting hit with a widespread snowstorm with some spots seeing their whole year's worth of snow from this event alone.

When you live by the beach, unless you're in the snowbelt along the Great Lakes or in the Northeast, a snow shovel might not be the first thing you have handy in your shed. For Virginia Beach residents, this is likely the case.

While Virginia Beach does see snow, with an average of 6 to 8 inches per year, it's usually not enough at one time to bring out a fleet of plows. Plus, it often melts as soon as the sun appears making for easy clean-up.

With this snow event, Virginia could see between 5 and 10 inches of snow. The WeatherRadar shows heavy rainfall Wednesday afternoon falling across the Virginia Tidewater and southward as far as the Outer Banks in North Carolina with a freezing mix to the south of that as well.

Virginia Beach residents will likely be hunkering down until the event passes and streets can be cleared with the help of the sun. The snow piles will take some time to melt too as temperatures behind this storm will stay frigid in the upper 20s and low 30s through the weekend. Check the TemperatureRadar for know when warmer weather will come to assist!
