Daily briefing
Areas of rain & heat, with a chilly NE

Mostly quiet weather is in Thursday's forecast, but some pockets of the U.S. will need the umbrella. Temperatures rebound to the warmer side for many, too, with the exception of the Northeast. This, along with our tropical update, is available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

The last bit of the large autumn cold front that exited much of the East yesterday is bringing morning rain to the Southeast. The front will eventually stall and bring rain along the Southeast Coast and Florida. Isolated flash flooding is possible along Florida's east coast as continuous showers drop localized amounts of 2-3 inches per hour. Have your weather alerts switched on.

Wet weather is also possible in the Southwest as a low-pressure system taps into the Eastern Pacific's Hurricane Priscilla. Further north, a storm system on the coast of the Pacific Northwest will bring rain and higher elevation snow from Northern California to Seattle.

Midday rain is possible in Kansas, but other than that, dry conditions will prevail for the rest of the U.S.

High temperatures will be coolest in the Pacific Northwest, the lower Great Lakes, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast in the 50s and 60s. The 70s and 80s will stretch along the Mississippi Valley and into the Plains, except Texas, which will get into the upper 80s and 90s. The rest of the West and Southwest will be warm in the 80s and 90s.

Tropical Update

Tropical Storm Jerry continues to slowly move northwest over the next couple of days. We continue to watch a cluster of thunderstorms in the southern Gulf, but there is a low chance of development over the next 7 days.
