Daily briefing
Autumn quiet locked in

Autumn is locked in across the Eastern U.S., keeping things quiet but a bit cool today. There will be summery weather lingering in several spots of the U.S. This and our tropical update is available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

High pressure situated across the eastern third of the U.S. will produce a sun-filled but early-autumn day from the Mississippi Valley to the Atlantic Seaboard. The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the 70s and low 80s after a cool morning start. Low humidity will make a great day to have the windows open.

High pressure over the eastern U.S. will keep the pleasant autumn weather locked in place.

Florida and the Gulf Coast won't be so lucky as their northern neighbors. The WeatherRadar shows thunderstorms developing throughout the day. Tampa, Miami and New Orleans could have several passing storms throughout this afternoon.

A few thunderstorms will also be possible across the Upper Midwest and northern Mississippi Valley, especially later this afternoon into this evening.

The Western High Plains, Mountain West and Rockies will be hot with summer-like highs in the upper 80s with Texas and New Mexico hitting the 90s. The Southwest will be even hotter with triple-digits likely.

The West Coast will be a mixed bag. Southern California will be sunny and warm while clouds and a few showers sweep across the Northwest, keeping it slightly cooler.

Tropical Update

The tropical system threat watched late last week and over the weekend has diminished. Additional development is not likely over the next several days.
