Daily briefing
Northwest remains soggy

The Northwest can't catch much of a break from the rain today while quieter and milder weather spreads across more of the U.S. This is included in today's daily briefing, published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

Another atmospheric river event arrived late Sunday and will linger across the Northwest today. The WeatherRadar shows heavy rain continuing across northern California and the lower elevations of the Pacific Northwest. Snow will fall across the highest Cascades.

Rain and snow will also reach into the northern Rockies, causing a few travel headaches there.

The rest of the U.S. will be surprisingly quiet with only a few showers found across the Midwest and southern and eastern Texas.

The TemperatureRadar shows milder weather spreading across more of the western and southern Plains, South and Southeast, with highs in the 50s. Even the Midwest and the Great Lakes will reach above freezing today, with even a few spots hitting the low 40s. This is in stark contrast to the single digits and teens seen over the weekend.

The Northeast will remain the cold spot with arctic air lingering and highs in the 20s and low 30s.
