Daily briefing: Northwest soaking continues

The Pacific Northwest remains soggy today as an atmospheric river produces heavy rain. The moisture will move across the Cascades and into the northern Rockies, bringing some snow for the ridges. The northern tier remains cold while the parts of the South warm up. This is included in today's daily briefing, published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

The Northwest remains the top spot for bad weather today as heavy rain continues, bringing threats of flooding. The WeatherRadar also shows the Pacific moisture rolling over the northern Rockies, bringing some snow along the way.

To the east, a clipper will roll across the central Plains and the Midwest, bringing a quick burst of snow. Temperatures in the teens and 20s, meaning the snow will cause slick roads. Snow is also a problem across the Northeast and especially downwind of the Great Lakes.

It will be a totally different story across the southern tier from California to the Southeast. It will be sunny with highs generally in the 50s and 60s. The TemperatureRadar does show highs in the 70s across southern California, the Southeast and southern Florida.
