Daily briefing
Stormy weather shifts to central U.S.

October's first Monday includes autumn making a reappearance in the western half, wet and stormy skies in the central U.S., as well as above-average heat moving into the eastern third. This, along with our tropical update, is available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

The wet weather that impacted the High Plains through the Upper Midwest on Sunday is making a slight shift south and east. Thunderstorms and rain will continue impacting the central Plains through the Upper Great Lakes today. Additionally, abundant southerly flow out of the Gulf will trigger more rain across the Deep South into the Tennessee and Ohio valley. Keep the umbrellas and the WeatherRadar handy throughout the day.

Monday's wet weather view on the WeatherRadarThe WeatherRadar shows wet & stormy skies stretching from the Plains and Upper Midwest to the Deep South.

Florida will continue having heavy showers and thunderstorms due to the same stationary front that has been around since last week. Flash flooding continues to be an issue here. Stay alert to your surroundings.

The low-pressure trough triggering the stormy skies in the central U.S., has left behind autumn temperatures from the Rockies to the northern Plains. Highs in the 50s and 60s will be found on the TemperatureRadar.

As for much of the eastern two-thirds of the U.S., summery heat will stick around for the beginning part of this week. The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the 80s from Texas to Maine today. Records as old as 79 years could be tied across the Northeast today. Take advantage if you love the summer weather!

Tropical Update

We continue to monitor the cluster of thunderstorms rolling into the central Atlantic for any potential development, which has a 70 percent chance as it moves into favorable conditions over the next 7 days.
