Daily briefing
Severe threat in the Southeast

Active weather is forecast for the Pacific Northwest, Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast today. This, along with our tropical update, is available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

The WeatherRadar will be busy today as multiple storms impact the U.S. Strong storms will fire up across the Southeast, with damaging wind, hail, as well as a chance for tornadoes in cities like Jackson, Miss., Birmingham, Ala., Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tenn. Showers will stretch from Washington, D.C., to New York City.

The WeatherRadar shows rain and mountain snow in the Pacific Northwest, a system moving through the upper Midwest, bringing rain and snow, and a system bringing strong storms to the Southeast. An active pattern is showing up on the WeatherRadar.

Another low will bring 4-8 inches of snow across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest and rain to the Great Lakes. Winds gusting to 30 mph or more, combined with the snow, will make travel hazardous at times today in cities like Fargo, N.D., and Bemidji, Minn. Minneapolis will see rain transition to snow tonight.

Rain and mountain snow will also impact the Pacific Northwest as a front moves through the region.

Temperatures 10-15 degrees above average stretch along the Southeast and up into the Mid-South and Great Lakes. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s in the Deep South, helping to fuel the severe weather threat. The Ohio Valley and Northeast will warm into the 50s today, while New England and the Great Lakes will see 40s. The chilliest temperatures will be in the northern Plains, where highs will stay near freezing.

Tropical Update

Tropical activity is not expected over the next several days. We continue to monitor the tropics as the Atlantic Hurricane Season lasts until November 30.
