Daily briefing
Signs of cooler changes

The heat wave baking the South and East continues through midweek, but there are cooler weather on the way. The Daily Briefing is published daily at 5 a.m. ET and includes a look at the tropics.

Another near record hot day will be found along the length of the East Coast and much of the Southeast, South and the lower Mississippi Valley today. The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the triple digits in Dallas, and Oklahoma City while the rest of the East Coast and South tops out in the upper 90s. High humidity makes it feel even hotter.

Hot WednesdayHeat wave continues across the South and East today.

As the WeatherRadar shows, few afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be possible across the Southeast, but these spotty storms will not offer much relief from the unbearable heat.

A slowly-moving front settling across the central Plains and the Midwest will slowly break the heat wave over the next several days. Today, it will bring storms across the central Plains and the Midwest, spoiling afternoon and evening plans in Chicago, Milwaukee and Kansas City.

North of the front, highs will only climb into the 70s throughout the northern Plains, Upper Midwest and the Rockies. These cooler temperatures will slide south across the Plains Thursday and arriving across the Northeast on Friday. Check the forecast to see these changes.

Summer remains locked in place across the West. A few storms will pop-up across the Rockies and sneak into Denver, but sunshine will dominate most other places. Highs will be in the triple digits across the Southwest, while the interior West stays in the 90s. The Northwest and California will be in the 80s while the immediate Pacific Coast will be slightly cooler.

Tropical Update

Across the tropical Atlantic, we’re not expecting any tropical storm formation to start off the week.
