Daily briefing
Storms, floods for High Plains, hot NE

The severe and flood threat will be mainly focused from eastern Wyoming through western Iowa on Tuesday. Extreme heat will continue to dominate the Southeast, but temperatures in the Northeast are expected to reach near 100°F in the afternoon. All of this, along with today's tropical outlook, is included in the daily briefing, published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

Temperatures will remain hot across the Southeast, averaging between 5 and 10 degrees above normal. While records are likely to be established or at least tied across Central Florida, more cities could tie or break records across the Northeast. Temperatures across the Tri-State will be near 100ºF. The extreme heat is expected to persist at least through Wednesday, with heat indices potentially reaching 104°F.

The stormiest weather will remain mainly focused across the Central High Plains. A low-pressure system will accompany a cold front, bringing instability. The moisture ahead of the front will ignite storms, which will move slowly. Aside from some turning severe, they will develop damaging winds and hail. The slow speed could also cause flash flooding.

The rainfall across southern Minnesota is expected to total around 2 inches through Tuesday morning. Still, heavier rains are anticipated across Iowa during the day and are expected to persist through Wednesday evening. Iowa is forecast to receive between 3 and 5 inches, with some areas potentially receiving more than 7 inches through Wednesday evening.
