Daily briefing
Summer heat returns

After autumn temperatures brought in a preview of the season to come, summer heat is returning to much of the U.S. Stormy weather will also be prominent for many. This, and our tropical update, are available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

The autumn equinox is not here yet, and the summery heat is making us very aware of that. The TemperatureRadar is showing highs in the 80s and 90s for most of the U.S., except for North Dakota, the Pacific Northwest and the higher elevations of the Rockies. Some late-season heat records could be tied across the Deep South, too.

Monday's high forecast on the TemperatureRadar.

This heat will help fuel thunderstorms for many. The WeatherRadar shows rain and storms erupting across the northern Rockies and High Plains, the northern Plains, Upper Midwest and the Southeast today.

Some pockets of rain could produce localized flash flooding in poor-drainage areas. Keep a close eye on your surroundings and on the WeatherRadar.

Pockets of rain and isolated thunderstorms are possible in the southern Plains and Southwest, too. Watch the WeatherRadar.

Tropical Update

The tropics remain unusually quiet, but we could see some development this week as an African wave continues to make its way into the favorable environment of the eastern Atlantic.
