    Deadly volcanic eruption in Indonesia

Breakfast Brief
Cold front parade continues, rainy East

Active weather pattern this week as several fronts enter and cross the nation. The temperatures will stay above normal for much of the United States. For the latest Breakfast Brief please tap on the link here.

While a front exits the United States through the East Coast, another front enters through the West. The East Coast will still deal with some isolated showers that will affect the Great Lakes and Northeast, but the southern portion of the front loses its punch, especially as it moves over the Southeast. Do not expect significant precipitation, but much drier air will try to filter across northern Florida on Tuesday. Temperatures will remain above normal for Veteran's Day.

Across the West Coast, showers will extend from the Pacific Northwest through California as the next front moves in and snow falls over the higher elevations. This system will make its way over the Rockies, bringing rounds of snow on Tuesday. Get ready for an active week, an atmospheric river makes its way and it is expected to affect parts of the West this week increasing torrential showers and snow around the middle of the week.

Tropical update:

It might be almost mid-November, but the tropics continue to be prolific. While Rafael becomes history over the central Gulf of Mexico, there is another area we are monitoring for future tropical development. Currently, there is nothing over the western Caribbean but by the end of the week, we could start to notice more thunderstorm activity forming in the western Caribbean. It is too soon to know if this system will even develop, and we will continue to monitor the region and bring you updates throughout the week.

Weather history...

On November 11, 1940 a storm raged across the Great Lakes Region and the Upper Midwest. A blizzard left 49 dead in Minnesota, agales on Lake Michigan caused shipwrecks resulting in 59 deaths. Up to seventeen inches of snow fell in Iowa. The blizzard claimed a total of 154 lives and kled thousands of cattle in Iowa.
