    Fire threat for the Southeast

Dry and windy
Fire threat for the Southeast

Dry and windy conditions will increase the risk of fire across parts of the Southeast today.

While Florida has been swamped with showers and storms this week, it's been a different story for their northern neighbors. High pressure has kept conditions dry for Georgia and the Carolinas.

High pressure has led to gusty onshore winds up to 40 mph. This, combined with dry weather, has increased the fire risk for portions of Georgia and the Carolinas, including cities such as Augusta, Ga., Columbia, S.C., and Raleigh, N.C. Much of the Southeast is also experiencing persistent drought, which exacerbates fire risk.

The WeatherRadar shows dry conditions across much of the Southeast.

The WindRadar shows gusts lowering tomorrow, which will reduce the fire risk. In the meantime, avoid burning and keep an eye on conditions using the WeatherRadar.
