A spring deluge of downpours and thunderstorms will increase the risk flooding over the next several days across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes.

The perfect pattern for waves of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms is setting up from the central Plains into the Midwest and Great Lakes. The same high pressure bringing record heat to the East and Southeast is pushing Gulf moisture northward across the Plains and Midwest.

This moisture is feeding a stationary front meandering from the Plains into Great Lakes. The end result, as shown on the WeatherRadar, are waves of heavy rain and thunderstorms developing over the next several days. Calling training, impulses of downpours will produce several inches of rainfall over the same location. Detroit and Chicago could be impacted by heavy rain through Thursday.

Areas hit by multiple rounds of thunderstorms could flood from the deluge of rainfall. It is important to keeps alerts active and remember if flooding covers a road, turn around and don't drown.
