Flood watches active
Tropical downpours drench Mid-Atlantic

Tropical rains have been flowing into the Carolinas and northern Mid-Atlantic since Monday, prompting flood watches and warnings. The no-name storm system will continue churning off the East Coast through the weekend.

Heavy rains have been falling since Monday in the Carolinas, and the downpours are slowly making their way north into the Mid-Atlantic. Many were affected by flash floods and some experienced rainfall totals high enough to be considered 1,000-year rainfall events. People in Carolina Beach, N.C., recorded 18 inches of rainfall, prompting water rescues. Many had to leave their vehicles stranded in flood waters.

The WeatherRadar shows heavy rain moving as far inland as Kentucky and Tennessee over the next 24 hours before more showers and downpours begin shifting north into Pennsylvania. Flood watches and warnings have been posted from Windsor, N.C., northward to Fredericksburg, Va.

On top of the flooding rains, we have a full moon event currently happening and impacting the tides. Coastal flood advisories have also been posted due to the extra inundation of floodwaters influenced by both the storm and the full moon.

Carolina and Mid-Atlantic residents will notice the rain through the end of the week as the storm slowly meanders northward before it becomes the Northeast's problem. You can look ahead on the WeatherRadar for Thursday and Friday to see the storm's movement.
