Florida's heavy rain
If it's purple, it's pouring

A stalled frontal system is bringing in heavy, and at times severe, thunderstorms across Florida today, with a flooding focus along the I-95 corridor from Jacksonville to Miami by the middle of the night.

The WeatherRadar tool details not only cloudy skies but also the pouring rain and lightning strikes associated with storm systems. Across Florida, the WeatherRadar shows the storm cells and heavy rainfall.

The darker the blue, the heavier the rainfall. When the color turns to purple, that's where downpours that inhibit visibility are occurring. When the magenta color pops up within a downpour, that's how we know hail is involved.

Purple on the WeatherRadar indicates rainfall heavy enough to limit visibility.

The WeatherRadar shows the heavy rains along I-95 will move through during the mid-afternoon hours through dinner time, before waning around midnight. Urban areas that do not handle heavy downpours well should be monitored closely during times of travel.
