Florida’s messy forecast: More stormy weather today & this week

Another day of severe storms is in store for parts of Florida, especially over the same areas where rain was prolific on Monday evening.

A stationary front is sagging over Central Florida and will enhance showers and thunderstorm activity from Orlando southward. Similar places that experienced storms on Monday evening could also get some isolated storms on Tuesday afternoon into the early evening. Aiding the development of storms will once again be the sea breeze, which will keep storm activity mainly focused on eastern areas.

Areas from Broward County through the Space Coast will likely experience the highest rain chances. Rainfall totals could reach between 1 and 3 inches.

Fortunately, the risk for Tuesday is not as widespread, but some isolated storms could turn severe developing damaging winds and large hail. Hail sizes could reach half-quarter size and gusts could be higher than 60 mph. There is also a small chance that a brief tornado could develop from the strongest storms.

Since similar areas could get a second round of storms and the ground is well saturated, there could be flooding happening quickly. Make sure to stay away from flooded areas even if you transit through those roads frequently. Flood waters could be higher than estimated.

The clouds will stay put through much of the week across the Peninsula. Rain and storm chances will stay in the forecast with the highest chance for a thunderstorm formation mainly in the afternoons. Temperatures will stay in the low to mid-80s through Thursday, but also slightly increase. By Friday, a bit more sunshine and winds shifting from the South could bring temperatures closer to 90 degrees.

We will analyze how these rains could improve the droughts, mainly along the eastern half of Florida. The western half’s drought, especially over areas just north of Tampa has gotten worse and is now under extreme drought. From this week’s forecast, it doesn’t seem like this will improve much.
