Plus Southern Heat
Fourth of July Scorcher for the West

It will be a Fourth of July scorcher as a dangerous heat wave continues for the West and heat and humidity lead to sweltering "feels like" temperatures across the South.

Much of the West will want to keep a close eye on the TemperatureRadar as record-breaking heat continues across the region. Across the southern Plains, Southeast, and MId-Atlantic, humidity will combine with above-average temperatures to create sweltering conditions. You'll want to check out our feels-like temperatures right next to the actual temperature on the Weather & Radar app to get a gauge of the heat in these areas.

More than 110 million are under some type of heat alert through the Fourth of July. High pressure off the West Coast will keep temperatures between 105 and 115 degrees over inland California, including cities like Fresno and Sacramento, through the weekend and even beyond. Heat will also build along the coast and further north into Thursday and Friday. Portland, Ore. will see 90s Thursday and Friday, with 100s possible over the weekend.

Heat will combine with humidity to create sweltering conditions from the Southern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic for the Fourth of July and into the weekend. Highs will warm into the upper 90s and low 100s in cities like Houston, Oklahoma City, Little Rock, Ark., Jackson, Miss., and Memphis today. When you factor in humidity, the "feels like" temperatures will be as high as the 110s. By the Fourth, highs will reach the mid-90s as far north and east as Richmond, Va., and Washington, D.C.

Warm nights in the 70s and 80s across the Southeast will make it difficult to cool down. Make sure you check on those who don't have access to adequate air conditioning and take steps to stay cool and hydrated.
