From Texas to Florida
Moving storm to produce severe storms

The same system we have previously warned you is to bring rounds of severe storms to Florida this week. It will emerge from Northern Mexico and increase shower and storm activity over the eastern half of Texas late Wednesday into Thursday first. Let's analyze what's happening.

There is a storm brewing over northern Mexico on Wednesday. This system will increase the humidity, and cloud coverage on Wednesday for cities like Brownsville and Corpus Christi.

By late Wednesday, some showers and one or two storms could be rolling near Corpus Christi, which will only increase in coverage early Thursday. The I-45 corridor from DFW to Houston will be wet and stormy as the low pressure pumps lots of moisture and instability across the region. More instability will be added around this region as there will also be another low-pressure system moving in from the west passing over eastern Texas on Thursday.

The one-two punch in low pressures will allow the storms to continue through the evening on Thursday and into the early morning hours on Friday for the Metroplex and southeast Texas.

Expect the initial low-pressure system to border the coast of Texas through Mississippi and Alabama on Friday morning, increasing the moisture along much of the Gulf Coast. There could be some areas where torrential rains produce flooding. A blob of deep moisture arrives early on Friday in West Florida. This will be the start of a very wet and active day for the Sunshine State, which will likely be dealing with some severe storms and heavier rounds of rains as the low is forecast to strengthen a bit while it travels over the Gulf of Mexico grabbing more moisture on the way.

During the afternoon and evening hours, the southern half of Florida will be under a layer of deep clouds and storms moving in from west to east, with the chance for damaging winds and tornadoes increasing. Also, these storms can cause flooding and damaging winds, and the development of some tornadoes is possible.

Our meteorologists will closely follow the development of the low-pressure system and will continue to fine-tune the forecast during the week. Stay weather-aware, especially if you plan on traveling during Spring Break. This system could affect parts of the Southeast Atlantic coast this weekend and just before Easter week.

The image shows an intense tropical cyclone over the western Pacific, east of Taiwan and the Philippines. The centre of the system is depicted as a light purple and white vortex with a clearly visible eye, surrounded by a ring of red and orange areas indicating the strongest wind speeds. A white arrow marks the typhoon’s predicted track towards the north-west, in the direction of Taiwan. To the west of the storm lie the Philippines, with the cities of Manila and Cebu; to the north of these lies Taiwan, with Taipei. Further west, the Chinese coast, including Hong Kong, and parts of Vietnam can be seen. The coloured wind map shows predominantly green areas outside the storm’s core, indicating significantly weaker winds. White streamlines illustrate the typhoon’s anti-clockwise circulation in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest wind speeds are concentrated around the eye of the cyclone.
