The severe weather that affected parts of the southern Great Lakes resulted in mostly wind damage. In total, preliminarily, there were over 198 wind reports, the majority extending from Illinois through western Pennsylvania and western New York. There were also wind reports registered across the Rocky Mountains and Arizona.

As a storm crossed the Great Lakes area, it caused severe weather to move through the region late Wednesday night. Our lightning map was incredibly busy Wednesday afternoon and evening. The storms got a bigger oomph once they were moving through the southern portion of Lake Eire.

Baseball fans were also impacted by the severe weather. Los Angeles Angels were in town in Detroit to play the Tigers at 6:40 p.m. local time at Comerica Park on Wednesday. But it was announced at 2 p.m. on Wednesday that the two teams would play a doubleheader on Thursday as severe storms were in the forecast.

At one point in the afternoon, there were close to 200,000 customers without power in the area between Michigan and Ohio.

The storm also caused flooding. There were torrential cells moving through the Cleveland area where cars were stranded. At local airports, such as Detroit's Metropolitan Wayne County Airport dozens of flights were delayed as there was a ground stop in effect due to the storms passing by. Luckily, these ground stops do not last too long and ground stops are common with these types of storms, even the typical Florida afternoon storms many times cause ground stops at airports.

Now that the Severe weather moves to the Northeast and will also bring the chance for isolated severe weather across the Tri-State area and New England. On Friday, another round of severe weather will affect the Great Lakes area, so be on the lookout for any isolated storms that could bring frequent lightning, damaging winds, and hail.
