Heavy rains for Florida
Higher than normal tides leads to floods

Privacy policy

The stationary front located near South Florida and ample moisture about to take over much of the state will increase the flooding potential for the coming days in areas where there hasn’t been much rain. South Florida, where some areas have accumulated over 3 inches of rain just on Tuesday, will continue with a high risk for flash floods. But the East Coast of the Sunshine State will also experience flooding as higher than normal high tides will contribute to the problem this week.

The stationary front will turn into a warm front sweeping northward over Florida very slowly this week. Expect a good chance for rain throughout this work week across much of the Peninsula. Coastal residents should monitor water levels as water could quickly rise due to the strong winds pushing in water onshore, but also higher than normal high tides.

Although these are not the infamous King Tides, these tides will contribute to the coastal flood issues from Southeast Florida through the east-central Florida coast. Low-lying areas, especially those commonly affected by the spring tides, will likely see flooding in the coming days. Please avoid flooded roads.

flood safety

Our WeatherRadar shows a small break will come for South Florida Tuesday night into Wednesday, but thunderstorms will erupt once again on Wednesday afternoon, and more showers and thunderstorms will take over central and north Florida Wednesday and Thursday.
