A once-in-a-generation winter storm is underway for the Gulf Coast, and the video above shows the worsening conditions across southern Louisiana where blizzard conditions have closed parts of I-10.

A powerful winter storm is bringing wintry weather from Texas to the Carolinas today, with parts of the Gulf Coast experiencing blizzard conditions. The WeatherRadar will be invaluable today for tracking this winter weather.

Parts of I-10 have shut down between Lafayette, La., and New Orleans. Blizzard conditions will be in place from Beaumont, Texas, to Lafayette, La. The WindRadar shows gusts up to 35 mph along the Gulf Coast, which will create whiteout conditions at times.

So, how much snow are we expecting? In southern Louisiana, including cities like Lafayette and Baton Rouge, anywhere from 6 to 8 inches or more are forecast. New Orleans and Beaumont, Texas, are also expected to see 4 to 6 inches of snow. An additional 1 to 4 inches of snow will fall in Houston.

A glaze of ice will also impact southern Texas, north Florida, south Georgia, and South Carolina today. Stay off the roads and make sure your Weather & Radar app alerts are on.
