Intense winds, rain
Bomb cyclone knocks out power

A bomb cyclone continues to impact the Pacific Northwest through northern California on Wednesday. Thousands are without power and one person has died from a falling tree.

The WindRadar shows gusts reached 75 mph in the higher elevations of Washington and Oregon overnight leading to more than 500,000 customers being without power early Wednesday morning. Now that winds are calming down in the Pacific Northwest - as of mid-morning local time - only 111,500 customers need power restored. That doesn't mean this storm is over, however.

The WeatherRadar still shows rounds of heavy rain and mountain snow, with some isolated icy conditions, across the Pacific Northwest, northern Rockies, and northern California. Northern California is going to continue receiving the most impacts through the end of the week as this strong storm system pulls plentiful Pacific moisture by way of an atmospheric river.

Northern California is currently under a moderate risk - a level 3 out of 4 - for very heavy rainfall. Mudslides, landslides, and flooding are all expected with up to 5 inches falling today. Starting Thursday morning, up to 7 inches could fall on top of Wednesday's totals, putting coastal northern California under the highest risk when it comes to excessive rainfall.

You can see the atmospheric river live on the WeatherRadar as it pushes more and more moisture into northern California. San Francisco, Sacramento, Calif., and Reno, Nev., are all expecting downpours before things begin to calm early Saturday.
