Drought, heatwave dries up Thames source

Dry Thames

Weather and Radar UK reporter, Tamsin Green, takes us on a tour of the source of the River Thames, where a drought unseen in 500 years is making major rivers dry up, including Great Britain's most famous one, the River Thames.

The United Kingdom's summer has been uncharacteristically hot and dry. The lack of rainfall over the past couple of months has caused the source of the River Thames to entirely dry up and has been replaced by a barren landscape.

The original source has shifted several miles eastwards from its initial spot in Trewsbury Mead, just south-west of Cirencester in Gloucestershire, where several walkers come to hike the renowned Thames Path, which finishes in London.

David McMeeking, Manager of the Thames Head Inn, which is located by the original source, tells us how unprecedented this is, and we discuss how the changing climate may impact his business in the future.
