Kilauea spews lava 200 feet in the air

Kilauea, on the Big Island of Hawaii, is once again active. This is the 11th episode of activity in the current eruption, which started on Dec. 23, 2025.

The WeatherRadar picked activity from the volcano Kilauea on Tuesday evening. The current episode on the Halemaʻumaʻu crater began just before 6:30 p.m. local time. Lava was sent more than 200 feet into the air. The activity in the crater paused at 7:06 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

Ash from the eruption on the WeatherRadar.

The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory raised the volcano’s alert level from “advisory” to “watch” and its aviation color code from yellow to orange. While the activity has paused, it may start up again, and ash may cause issues with aviation.
