Winter storms will become much more common in the forecast as we head through the colder months. Here are some tips to ensure your car is ready for snowy conditions and in the event of getting stuck on the road.

If you need to travel these days, it's vital that your car is adequately stocked up and geared up in the event you or your family get stuck on the road. Use the following checklists to prepare your car for all winter weather emergencies, whether it be stuck in a snowbank, driving in the icy snow, or being stranded in a snowstorm

Winter emergency kit:

  • Emergency flares
  • Flashlight
  • Extra batteries
  • Hand crank or battery-powered radio
  • Ice scraper for windshield and windows
  • Shovel
  • Jumper cables
  • Neon flag or ribbon
  • Chain or sturdy rope for towing
  • Tire chains

These additional survival items may be worth packing before you head out.

  • Warm blankets
  • Extra hats and gloves
  • Water and non-perishable food
  • Cell phone charger and power brick
  • Extra medications
