Northeast deluge
Moisture surge fuels strong storms

The Northeast will feel more like the Deep South into the weekend as moisture and heat surge into the region, sparking strong storms and a potential flood threat.

The Northeast will feel much balmier than usual as high pressure sends moisture toward the region. Heat index values will run 5-10 degrees higher than the actual temperatures into the weekend as some of the highest humidity values of the summer move in.

High pressure of the East Coast is steering deep moisture into the Northeast.
High pressure off the East Coast is steering deep moisture into the Northeast.

In addition to the sweltering heat, strong storms may erupt in the afternoon and evening hours. These storms will have plentiful moisture to work with, meaning flash flooding will be a concern, especially in urban areas.
